Indians still alive in Puerto Rico

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, May 9, 2015 – The Mayaguez Indians kept alive their slim chances in Puerto Rican Women’s Volleyball League Final Series by defeating Caguas Creoles in a sensational five-set battle (23-25, 25- 21, 25- 22, 19- 25, 18-16) at the Mayaguez Sports and Recreation Palace on Friday.

Caguas leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 with the fifth match scheduled at home on Sunday night.

The Indians snapped an 11-game losing streak against the Creoles in Puerto Rican League Finals after losing eight matches in the series of 2002 and 2005 and the first three encounters in 2015.

Kim Willoughby and McKenzie Adams led Mayaguez with 25 and 21 points, respectively, while Karina Ocasio and Stephanie Enright finished with 25 and 20 in the losing cause.

“We went out with a strong mentality and never quit,” Indians’ setter Micha Hancock said. “I know we will do the same on Sunday and I think we still have a good chance to win.”
