Jamaica reaches women final by sweeping Barbados

 

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, July 28, 2023.- Jamaican women team will have shot at winning their first Caribbean Championship on Sunday, as they beat the Bajans in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) at the 18th edition of the tournament in Paramaribo.

 

Jamaica was incredibly dominant in the semifinals on Friday, as they gave no set away to Barbados to play the gold medal match. This will be the first appearance for Jamaica in the event’s gold medal match.

 

Outside hitter Mychael Vernon led Jamaica with 13 points. She is joined by opposite and captain Sashalee Thomas with 8 points respectively. For Barbados outside hitter Hall scored 5 points.

 

Ricardo Chong, coach of Jamaica: “We set small goal to reach the final. And the ultimate goal is to win the final. Tomorrow, we have a lot of rest and looking forward to do some training. We just to get ready for the final. We already played Suriname and Trinidad. I do not mind who we will meet, but it will be a great final.”

 

Sashalee Thomas, captain of Jamaica: “We had to put more effort in this game. It was not that easy. Our goal is to reach the final one step at a time. And now we want to be undefeated champion.”
