Castillo stays in contention for Globe Award
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, January 16, 2013 – Brenda
Castillo, the libero of the Dominican Republic Women’s National
Team, dominated the first-round voting for the Volleyball Globe
Award in a poll conducted by volleyball.it an Italian website
dedicated to volleyball based in Modena.
Castillo is currently playing for Rabita Baku Club in Azerbaijan
following a superb performance at the 2012 Olympic Games where
she was the top libero and best digger.
In the first stage of the election, when fans from all over the
world vote via internet, Castillo easily won against the Chinese
Zhang Xian by a 70-30 margin. She now will compete against the
veteran Japanese Yuko Sano, the regular libero of her country
national team.
Meanwhile, the Dominican opposite Bethania De la Cruz, of Galtex
GS in Korea, was eliminated from the contest losing 67-33
against Neslihan Darnel the star of Turkey National Team.
