USA trounce Puerto Rico to claim second win

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 13 2012 — The United States defeated Puerto Rico in straight sets 25-15, 25-12, 25-14.

Kristin Richards tallied 11 points for USA and Laura Gibbemeyer 10. Stephanie Enright finished with 10 for Puerto Rico.

“It was a very erratic match for us. Our block, pass and serve did not work. We could not take control over the USA attacks and they used their best players in the middle. We hope to improve tomorrow,” Puerto Rican captain Jetzabel del Valle said.

Puerto Rico’s coach David Alemán remarked: “We can still get our goal. We hope to qualify and improve in our next matches. We started playing against the two best teams but we have a very young group in preparation for the future”.

This was the second match of Stacy Sykora, who said: “Puerto Rico are a very good team. It is always good for us to play against them. Despite the 3-0 score, they are a great team. This was a positive victory for us and we expect to play better”.

Team USA coach Reed Sunahara stated: “Puerto Rico started off well. For us we were worried about it. It is a good team, with good pass and did a nice job. Tonight our bench performed well. Once they got in they did what we expected”.
