Cuba improves to 2-0 with victory over Canada
 

ROSARITO, Mexico, June 19, 2010 - Cuba showed why is still one of the top countries in volleyball, and with no hesitation came from behind to defeat a strong and well prepared team of Canada by score of 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19).

 

Kenia Carcaces finished with 19 points for Cuba as the top scorer of the match, while Rachel Sanchez and Ana Yilian Cieger concluded with 16 tallies apiece. Canada’s Tonya Mokelki recorded 16 points, Sarah Pavan registered 15 and Tammy Mahon and Jennifer Hinze chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.

 

After losing the first set, the Cubans coached by Juan Carlos Gala made some adjustments with much better reception and blocking game, finished with their second victory of the tournament.

 

“We were very surprised by the tactical plan, Canada played well prepared with good service and attack on the first set, but we found the way to solve it and finally finished with the victory and that was very important for us”, said coach Gala.

 

“We played very focused on the first set, but on the second one we had some mistakes and that was when we struggled, but anyway I feel so proud of the way my team has been playing”, Canada’s coach Arnd Ludwig stated.
