Dominican Republic makes the quarterfinals at U-21 Cup
PANAMA CITY, Panama, June 24, 2011 – Dominican Republic finished
second in Pool A to secure a berth in the quarterfinals of the
U-21 Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup defeating Honduras 3-0
(25-12, 25-13, 25-15) on Friday.
Anaury Burgos with 15 points and Kelvyn Campechano with 12 were
the best Dominican players while Ricardo Vásquez and José
Vásquez topped Honduras with 9 and 7 points respectively.
Osiel Vásquez, coach of Dominican Republic, said they achieved
their goal of winning a second match in the pool phase, and
praised the performance of their younger rivals. Regarding the
quarterfinals he said they have to minime the errors because the
opponents are not going to give away anything.
Campechano, captain of the team said Honduras was a fair rival
against whom they played and got the victory. Now they will go
step by step in the quarterfinals.
Evans Torres, the assistant coach of Honduras, was glad about
the attitude of his group of youngsters during the match where
they never lost the enthusiasm.
Ricardo Vásquez, player of Honduras, stressed on the experience
of participating in this tournament both for him and his
teammates and said they learned from playing against the
Dominicans and the rest of the matches. |
