St. Vincent and the Grenadines defeats Bermuda
SAINT MARTIN, June 24, 2011 - Both Bermuda and
St. Vincent eagerly sought a victory going into this pivotal
game as playoff implications weighed in the balance. St.
Vincent peppered their opponents with blistering serves while
Bermuda almost wilted but countered with determined resolve.
The score line for the game was 25-7, 24-26, 25-14 and 25-23 in
favor of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In the evening matinee the undefeated Antigua and
Barbuda encountered the unstoppable and undefeated French St.
Martin. In the first set fatigue was obvious in the legs of the
host. Their adversaries took advantage and sealed the first set
easily. Aware of the situation Louisnia Maccow took her team on
her back and rocked Antigua’s foundations with some aggressive
back court hitting. In the end the unstoppable force of St.
Martin eked out a victory with a score of 15-25, 25-15, 25-21
and 25- 22.
Both the captain and coach for team St. Vincent
and the Grenadines were elated at the victory. The captain
indicated the team decided to have fun on the court and play in
a relaxed manner. Being candid the coach felt his team will
improve with each and every game they play together.
The coach and captain for team Bermuda expressed
tiredness played a factor after having played five sets in the
morning. Both individual recognized the good passing skills of
their opposition but was never able to pose a real challenge to
them.
The winning coach and captain from French St.
Martin was of the view too many errors occurred in the beginning
set but the team corrected itself and played well enough to
win. However conditioning will be tested if the team has to
play another five set game. Post match interviews with the coach
and captain of team Antigua revealed the team made many unforced
errors which contributed to their lost. However Antigua will be
back better and stronger than ever during the next game.
