Girls’ U-18 Pan Am Cup announced in Tijuana

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 29 2011 - The U-18 Girls Pan American Volleyball Cup to be staged from July 3-8 at the Baja California High Performance Center in Tijuana was announced during a press conference held on Wednesday.

Tijuana has been host city for three FIVB Junior and Youth World Championships and last year organized the Women’s Pan American Cup and the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship.

On behalf of Saul Castro Verdugo, Director of Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Institute (INDE), INDE’s Sport Development Director Cesar Osuna welcomed the media representatives and the attendants to the press conference.

“This is the first time the Cup is played in the U-18 category, and is a very important effort to promote this sport within our youth, and it will have no cost for the fans”, said Osuna. “People can come and see the best young players and support our national for free”.

Argentina, Chile Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador Peru and Puerto Rico will take part in this competition. The official Coaches Conference as well as the General Technical Meeting are scheduled on Saturday July 2nd.

The tournament will start on Sunday 3rd with the first match between Peru and El Salvador, followed by the contests Argentina-face Costa Rica, and Dominican Republic-Puerto Rico.

An opening ceremony is scheduled before the final match between Mexico and Chile. The Chilean team was the first to arrive in Baja California and was also introduced during the conference in Tijuana along with the Mexican team.
