Karina Ocasio gets second MVP Award in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, April 27, 2019 – Karina Ocasio became the
first female volleyball player in 25 years to repeat as winner
of the Most Valuable Player Awards of Puerto Rican Women’s
Volleyball Superior League.
Ocasio dominated the poll for the Most Valuable Player as she
received 21 first-place mentions and totaled 122 points.
“It has been a season of sacrifices”, Ocasio, “but I am glad
that all those sacrifices were recognized to present this award.
There have been a lot of efforts with the family, in the
training, conditioning, therapy and a lot of things to get this
recognition,” Ocasio said.
Ocasio who is in her 19th season in the league, was the Rookie
of the Year in 2000 with Guaynabo and was named the MVP for the
2017 season. She has played in several foreign leagues,
including Italy, Korea, Spain, Turkey, Indonesia and China.
“This MVP I have enjoyed double because of the tough season for
the situation of the team. I have had to take care of myself the
double and work harder. But getting the award you know the work
has been worthy,” Ocasio said.
Second place in the MVP voting was Andrea Rangel with 65 points
(7 first place votes), followed by Paulina Prieto with 45 points
and one first-place mention. |
