Kelly Murphy Named NORCECA Women’s Championship MVP
OMAHA, Nebraska, September 21, 2013 –
Kelly Murphy of the United States was selected the 2013 Visit
Omaha NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship most valuable
player and Best Spiker as she helped the United States to the
tournament title on Saturday at Ralston Arena.
Murphy collected 55 points in the tournament to rank sixth in
scoring and converted 49.0 percent of her attacks into points.
Puerto Rico’s Karina Ocasio was the Best Scorer of the
tournament. The United States also earned two other individual
award winners. Alisha Glass was tabbed Best Setter and Jordan
Larson-Burbach was chosen Best Server. Dominican Republic’s
Brenda Castillo was selected as the Best Digger, while Debora
Seilhamer was chosen as Best Receiver. Canada’s Janie Guimond
was tabbed as Best Libero and Trinidad & Tobago’s Sinead Jack
captured the Best Blocker.
All awards were selected based on the Volleyball Information
System (VIS) statistics.
The championship also selected an All-Star Team comprised of two
outside hitters, two middle blockers, one opposite, one setter
and one libero based on the top ranking. The outside hitters
named to the team were Dominican Republic’s Bethania de La Cruz
and Puerto Rico’s Aurea Cruz. The middle blockers selected were
Trinidad & Tobago’s Sinead Jack and Dominican Republic’s Candida
Perez. The setter named to the All-Star Team was United States’
Alisha Glass, while the opposite was Murphy. Canada’s Janie
Guimond was picked as the libero to the All-Star Team.
