Mexico tops Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 in Group 3

 

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, July 8, 2017 – Hosts Mexico came back from a first-set loss to overcome FIVB World Grand Prix debutants Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-10) in Group 3 in Aguascalientes on Saturday.

 

Lizbeth Sainz was the key player once more for the Mexicans with 19 points, while teammate Dulce Carranza had 14. Krystle Esdelle led Trinidad & Tobago with 15 points, while Sinead Jack scored 11.

 

In Chiclayo, Peru, a team-high 17 points from Barbora Purchartova has helped Czech Republic to a 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-21, 25-18) win over Puerto Rico in their Group 2 clash, with Puerto Rico ably led by a powerful Karina Ocasio, who notched a game-high 20 points in the loss. 

 

In Neuquen, Argentina, Poland remain unbeaten after a 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-23) victory over Canada. 

Malwina Smarzek repeated yesterday's performance and led the score sheet with 17 points. Benerika Tomsia, added 14 points for Poland. On the Canadian side, Alexa Gray tallied 11 points, followed by Elizabeth Wendel with 9.
