NORCECA President meets with media prior to XXII Congress

TIJUANA, Mexico, October 30, 2013 - NORCECA President and FIVB First Executive Vice President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, made a detailed explanation of the agenda of the XXII Confederation Congress that will take place on November 2-3 at the Grand Hotel Tijuana.

Marte Hoffiz met with a dozen of local media representatives at the Baja California High Performance Center where the journalists had the chance to know more about the functioning of volleyball continental governing body and all the commissions within its organizational structure.

The President of NORCECA was introduced to the journalists by Saul Castro Verdugo, president of the organizing committee and General Director of the Baja California Sports and Physical Education Institute.

“The congress is the top organism of NORCECA and meets every two years to review the previous activities of the Confederation and to implement plans for the future,” Marte Hoffiz stated. “As the highest authority of the institution it corresponds to the congress, to approve or reject all the proposals made by the different bodies through the Executive Committee and Board of Administration.”

“One of the most important missions of the congress is to analyze the financial operations of NORCECA which are audited by the Ernst & Young firm,” he added.

He informed that FIVB President, Dr. Ary Graca Filho would be arriving late Wednesday to join Dr. Saleh Bin Nasser, Dr. Rafael Lloreda Currea and Dr. Amr Elwani, presidents of the Asian, South American and African Confederations, respectively, who are already in Tijuana as special guests to take part in the two-day meetings.

The Executive Committee and Board of Administration of NORCECA are scheduled a meeting on Thursday ahead of the start of congress activities.

Marte Hoffiz announced that on November 1, a Seminar of Development and Sport Management will be conducted for the National Federations Category I and II, under the direction of Nelson Ramirez, general manager of NORCECA, and Mushtaque Mohammed, president of the Development Commission.

The Congress will receive the reports from the president as well as the commissions of Finance, Sport Organization, Development, Beach Volleyball, Press, Technical, Refereeing, Legal, Medical, VIS and Statistics and Marketing.

Also the presidents of the four zones within NORCECA will be presenting their activities report. They are Hugh Wong (Central), Marta Centeno de Sajche (AFECAVOL), Mushtaque Mohammed (CAZOVA) and Glenn Quinlan (ECVA).

“We will have a very interesting agenda and the opportunity to discuss our strengths and weaknesses,” Marte Hoffiz said. “During the past two years we have organized twenty-eight tournaments towards the FIVB World Championships in 2014 in Poland and Italy. That’s quite an accomplishment.”

On Sunday 3 in the afternoon, the Pan American Volleyball Union (UPV) presided also by Marte Hoffiz will held its biennial congress with the participation of the 41 members affiliated to NORCECA and the twelve members of South American Confederation.

“We will close our activities with that congress that will join a total of 53 countries here in Tijuana,” Marte Hoffiz.
