Natalia Martinez earns second MVP title of 2016

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 8, 2016 – Natalia Martinez of Dominican Republic was named the Most Valuable Player of the NORCECA Girls’ U18 Volleyball Continental Championship won by her team on Wednesday night.

Martinez, who was the overall best scorer of the event with 114 points, registered 33 and 29 points in the two matches of five-sets played by the Dominican Republic against the United States, one in the preliminary round and last night in the gold medal match.

It is the second MVP title achieved by Martinez this year as she also was recipient of the same honors at the Women’s U20 Continental Championship held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last July.

Martinez was one of five Dominicans awarded during the closing ceremony of the tournament that took place at Pedrin Zorrilla Coliseum of Hato Rey.

Madeline Guillén was selected as the best outside hitter, Camila De la Rosa was elected best setter, Geraldine González was named the first middle blocker and Yanlis Feliz as the best opposite.

Haley Warner of United States was the second best outside hitter and Loraine Lopez and Sofía Castro of Puerto Rico were the second best middle blocker and best server, respectively.

Mexico’s Joseline Landeros was the best receiver and best libero while Costa Rica’s Maria Jose Castro was the best digger.
