St. Kitts/
Nevis Opens ECVA finals with a win
over St. Vincent and the Grenadines
St. Johns, Antigua, November 23, 2012 - St.
Kitts/Nevis defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines three sets
to one ( 25-9; 22-25; 25 -17 and 25-21) in the opening fixture
of the East Caribbean Volleyball Association Senior Women
Championship.
Coach Steadroy Collins admitted that the win was
a very significant. "This being the finals with the big eight
teams it is very important to win your first game. It gives a
lot of confidence and spurs you on that for the other games", he
said.
Captain Antoinette Henry suggested that that
this was a below par performance. "I think that we can even play
better than this and under normal conditions we would have been
more hyped but we were really fatigue coming into the
tournament", she accounted.
Coach of the St. Vincent team Desmond James also
pointed to fatigue as a factor that accounted for his team loss.
" We were literally rushed into this game as the schedules had
to be changed to accommodate teams with flight problems. We were
hardly prepared for the first set but overall St. Kitts played
a better game", he opined.
His captain Suzanna Oliverre agreed. "St. Kitts
Nevis was the better team tonight . But we will just consider
this as a warm up and come back strong in our other two games",
she promised.
The St. Kitts victory charge was led by Brenda
Allen with 20 points, 16 of which were spikes. Shanecia Dyer had
12 spikes, 2 blocks and 2 service points to contribute 16 to
the victory while Bretisha Gregg had 13 points in a losing
cause.
St. Kitts/Nevis next plays Grenada on November 23
while St. Vincent will try to recover with a match against
Dominica. |
