Brazilians Alison and Emmanuel open with easy victory

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, October 17, 2011 – World Champions Alison Cerutti and Emmanuel Rego of Brazil only needed 31 minutes to claim their first victory in Pool D of the men’s beach volleyball tournament of the XVI Pan American Games as they defeated Costa Rica’s Esteban Escobar and Bryan Monge 2-0 (21-11, 21-7).

In the other match of Pool D, Cuba’s Karell Piña and Sergio Gonzalez beat Dominican Republic’s Yewddys Perez and German Recio 2-0 (25-23, 21-17).

The Mexico’s duo of Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen also scored an easy victory 2-0 (21-12, 21-15) in Pool A over Nicaragua’s Gerardo Umaña and Antonio Lopez. Also in the same pool, Canada’s Christian Redman and Ben Saxton defeated Uruguay’s Guillermo William and Nicolas Zanotta 2-0 (21-17, 21-9).

In Pool B, Chile’s team of cousins Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt beat Jeovanny Medrano and David Vargas of El Salvador 2-0 (21-12, 21-10) in just 30 minutes. Also in Pool B, the Venezuela’s duo of Igor Hernandez and Farid Mussa battled to edge United States’ Mark Van Zwieten and Andrew Fuller in a great match 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 16-14) that lasted 54 minutes.

In Pool C, Puerto Rico’s Roberto Rodríguez and Christopher Underwood defeated Jamaica’s Dellan Brown and Namarie Gordon 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) and Argentina’s Santiago Etchegaray and Pablo Suarez won 2-0 (21-19, 21-11) over Costa Rica’s Alexis Leonardo and Erick Garrido.
