Puerto Rico scores seventh win of the year

 

DOETICHEM, Netherlands, August 9, 2014 – Puerto Rico notched their seventh victory in Group 2 of the FIVB World Grand Prix with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22) decision over Poland on Saturday.

 

Karina Ocasio and Stephanie Enright were the main offensive weapons of the winners with 20 and 19 points, respectively.

 

Also in Group 2 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Peru prevailed in five sets against Cuba (27-25, 28-30, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13). Angela Leyva and Maguilaura Frias had 20 and 19 points, respectively for Peru. Melissa Vargas had a match-high 25 points for Cuba and Regla Gracia added 20 in the losing effort.

 

In the other match, Argentina beat Canada 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16) with 20 points from Emilce Sosa. Kyla Richey finished with 16 for Canada.

 

In Group 1 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, United States stormed past Korea 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16). Kelly Murphy led the Americans with 15 points while Kimberly Hill and Tetori Dixon chipped in with 13 and 10, respectively.

 

In Group 1 in Ankara, Turkey, Germany edged Dominican Republic in five-set thriller (25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 25-16, 16-14).

 

Stefanie Karg and Margaret Kozuch topped Germany with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Gina Mambru and Bethania De la Cruz had 15 and 13 for the Dominican Republic.
