Queens of the Caribbean climb 6th place in world ranking

RIMINI, Italy June 12, 2021 - Dominican Republic defeated Italy 3-1 today in the framework of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League, which earned it an unprecedented promotion to sixth place in the world ranking and the same position in the table of places of the tournament with a 6-4 record in wins and losses.

The Dominicans resisted a reaction from Italy in the fourth set and finally prevailed by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 26-24.

Bethania de la Cruz with 19 points was the best Dominican scorer with 19 points, followed by Prisilla Rivera and Jineiry Martínez with 12 and 10, respectively. Yonkaira Peña and Brayelin Martinez finished with 9 points each and Annerys Vargas contributed 8.

The Italian Camilla Mingardi was the best of the match with 26 points and two other teammates Alessia Mazzaro (14) and Giulia Melli (13) also finished with double figures.

The Dominicans outscored the Italians 10-2 in service aces and both teams scored on 8 blocks. The losers made 27 errors to 23 of the winners but led in attacks 56-53.
