T&T girls claim third youth title
TACARIGUA, TRINIDAD, DECEMBER 8, 2013: Captain Reann Young and
the towering Kaylon Cruickshank tallied 42 points between
themselves as host T&T bagged a third straight title in the
Caribbean Zone Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Youth (Under-18)
Championship, beating Barbados 25-14, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19 at the
Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua.
Young, the eventual "Best Scorer" and "Most Valuable Player" of
the competition registered a match high 23 points while
Cruickshank, the "Best Spiker" and "Best Blocker" added 19.
The duo of Aaliyah Alexis and Sarah Low chipped in with six and
five points respectively for T&T to add to its previous
tournament triumphs in 2007 at home and last year in US Virgin
Islands.
The win which came in one hour and 37 minutes also avenged a
round-robin loss in four sets to the Barbadians on Saturday
night.
This was mainly to T&T having a better showing in both attack
and defence with 38 kills, 12 aces and nine blocks to Barbados,
24 kills, eight aces and five blocks.
On the other side of the net, Deandra Small topscored for
Barbados with 11 points and Shonte Seale added ten.
In addition to Young and Cruickshank, the T&T trio of Sarah Low,
Alexandria Jones and Amber Commissiong also picked up individual
awards.
Low copped the "Best Server" accolade, Jones, the "Best Digger",
"Best Receiver", and "Best Libero", and Commissiong, the "Best
Setter".
