Turkey and Japan go for the gold in Montreux

 

   

MONTREUX, May 30, 2015 - Turkey overcame the Netherlands in a long and exciting semifinal match of the Montreux Volley Masters, that lasted in favour of Turkey 3-2 (29-27, 23-25, 25-13, 17-25, 15-13) at the Pierrier Sports Hall on Saturday. Opposite Gozde Yilmas scored 24 points for Turkey, which will reach the final of the tournament for the first time.

 

In the second semifinal match, undefeated Japan swept Russia 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-13) to reach the final. Yukiko Ebata led Japan with 17 points, while Russian Daria Isaeva scored 13 points.

 

Italy finished in fifth place with their 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-16) victory over China, which settled in seventh place. Liu Yanhan was China’s top scorer with 21 points while Indre Sorokaite charted 18 points for Italy.

 

World No. 9 Germany proved too strong for the Dominican Republic with a 3-1 (25-19, 27-29, 26-24, 28-26) victory in the classification match for fifth place.

 

Germany’s Louisa Lippmann and Saskia Hippe contributed 16 points apiece, while Dominican Republic’s Jineiry Martinez scored 14 points.

 

Germany kept the upper hand on offence over Dominican Republic with 55-32 attacks and 6-4 aces. However, they committed more errors than the Dominicans, who also dominated at the net with 23 block kills.
