USA defeated Dominican Republic
TOKYO, Japan, November 17, 2013 – USA defeated Dominican
Republic 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18) in the match between
teams of the NORCECA region in the FIVB Women’s World Grand
Champions Cup at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Sunday.
It was the fourth win against one loss for the USA team that
only lost to the Olympic champions Brazil in their first match
of the six-team tournament. The Dominican Republic finished with
a 1-4 win-loss balance.
The winners held a huge dominance at the net’s defense with a
16-8 margin in the blocking category and also were by far better
from the service line with 8 aces against 2. USA team made 20
unforced errors to 21 by the defeated side.
Lauren Paolini was the best scorer of the winning team with 19
points, including four blocks and two aces. Jordan Larson-Burbach
and Kelly Murphy each contributed 16 points and Cursty Jackson
added 10.
Gina Mambru topped the Dominican team with 17 points followed by
the young Brayelin Martinez with 10. Annerys Vargas and Candida
Arias had 9 points apiece and Yonkaira Peña finished with six. |
