USA finish second in Montreux Volley Masters

 

MONTREUX, Switzerland, June 1, 2014 – United States lost to Germany in the gold medal match of the 29th edition of the Montreux Volley Masters on Sunday.

 

Germany scored its first ever title at the women’s annual volleyball competition with a 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21) victory.

 

Margareta Kozuch slammed 19 points in leading Germany’s win. She was followed by Heike Beier and Stefanie Karg who contributed 15 apiece. Kelsey Robinson led the losers with 16 tallies.

 

In the match for the bronze medal, Russia edged China in five sets (19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 15-11).

 

Natalia Malykh had a match-high 23 points for Russia while Zhu Ting and Zeng Chunlei each registered 19 points in the losing effort.

Brazil claimed fifth place following a 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-22) victory over Japan. Carolina Da Silva had 17 points to lead five Brazilians with double digits in the scores.
