Volleyball of Central American Games begins on Monday

 

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, March 10, 2013 - Teams from the seven Central American countries will compete in the double gender volleyball tournament of the X Central American Games to be held in the National Gym of San Jose, Costa Rica from March 10-16.

 

In the women’s division Costa Rica is the reigning champion since 2001 and they have obtained the title in six of the eight editions of the games. Panama finished first in the men’s division during the previous edition held at home in 2010; they have a total of three titles along with Guatemala.

 

Teams will compete under a Pool Play format where the top teams in each group will pass directly to the semifinals while the second and third place teams cross over in the quarterfinals.

 

The medal matches are set for Saturday 16.

 

Women’s Division

 

Pool A: El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica Pool B: Panama, Belize, Nicaragua and Honduras.

 

Men’s Division

 

Pool A: Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica Pool B: Panama, Belize, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
