SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 17,
2022 – Mexicans Atenas Gutiérrez and María José
Quintero and Americans Corinne Quiggley and
Sarah Schermerhorn are qualified to the FIVB
Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome,
Italy as finalists of the Santo Domingo
Qualification Tournament.
The organizers took the decision of cancelling
the matches for the top-three places due to
inclement weather as the eventual results were
irrelevant for the qualification of the teams
according to the regulations.
In the semifinal matches, Gutiérrez and Quintero
defeated Natalia Girón and Estefanie Bethancourt
Guerra 2-0 (21-17, 21-8) while Quiggley and
Schermerhorn beat Angel Williams and Ximena
Nuñez 2-0 (21-16, 21-14).
In the quarterfinals, Williams/Nuñez edged
Yvonne Soler and Laura Molina of El Salvador 2-1
(21-15, 12-21, 15-7) in 44 minutes while Giron/Bethancourt
took 10 less minutes to defeat Petal Smith and
Chauna Kelly of Jamaica 2-0 (22-20, 21-15). |
