Brayelin Martínez gets second MVP at U23 Pan Am Cup

SAN VICENTE DE CAÑETE, Peru, September 25, 2016 – Towering Brayelin Martinez, who stood out as the leader of the Dominican Republic team that won the U23 Women’s Pan American Cup by Gatorade, was elected the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Martinez took honor for second time as she also won the award in 2014. Her countrywomen Yonkaira Peña won it in 2012. More  Español

Dominican Republic Claims Hat-Trick at U23 Pan Am Cup

SAN VICENTE DE CAÑETE, Peru, September 25, 2016 – The Dominican Republic won their third consecutive title at the U23 Women’s Pan American Cup with a sweeping victory over Argentina 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) in front of a crowd of more than 4,000 fans at Lolo Fernandez Coliseum on Sunday. The Dominicans now have defeated Brazil, Colombia and Peru in the finals of the three editions of the event that has taken place in Perú in all the occasions. Brayelin Martinez finished the match with 20 points, followed by her sister Jineiry Martinez who had 13, including three blocks. Daniela Bulaich had 10 points for Argentina, while Sol Piccolo and Candelaria Herrera finished with 9 and 8 points, respectively, in the loss. More  Español

Cuba claims bronze medal, spot to world championship

SAN VICENTE DE CAÑETE, Peru, September 25, 2016 – Cuba held off a valiant reaction from hosts Peru to claim the bronze medal at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Gatorade with a 3-2 (25-14, 25-19, 16-25, 12-25, 15-8) victory at Lolo Fernandez Coliseum on Sunday. More than 4,000 spectators watched Cuba recovering to win the see-saw-match and avoid the repetition of the preliminary round contest when Peru erased an 0-2 deficit to get the win. Cuba was already qualified to the 2017 FIVB U23 World Championship as one of the top two ranked teams from NORCECA competing in the event. Yelennis Diaz led five Cuban players who scored in double digits with 14 points. She was followed by Diaris Perez (13), Claudia Hernández (12), Dalila Palma (11) and Heidy Casanova (10). Argentina qualifies to U23 FIVB World Championship

SAN VICENTE DE CAÑETE, Peru, September 24, 2016 – Argentina qualified to the 2017 FIVB U23 Women’s World Championship by defeating South American rival Peru 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20) in the second semifinal of the Pan American Cup of the age group in front of more than 4,500 spectators at the Lolo Fernandez Coliseum on Saturday. The victory earned Argentina a shot to the U23 Women’s Pan American Cup by Gatorade on Sunday. Candelaria Herrera recorded 9 blocks and two aces among her 19 points to lead the winners while Daniela Bulaich contributed 16 points, all in attacks.   More  Español

Dominicans advance to third final in a row

SAN VICENTE DE CAÑETE, Peru, September 24, 2016 – Two-time defending champions Dominican Republic advanced to their third consecutive gold medal match at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup after a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-20) victory over Cuba at Lolo Fernandez Coliseum on Saturday. In Sunday’s final the Dominican Republic will play the winner of the match between Peru and Argentina to be played later on Saturday. In front of a crowd of more than 4,500 spectators, the Dominican team only committed 12 unforced errors for the match to 26.  More  Español

Costa Rica finishes in fifth position

SAN VICENTE DE CAÑETE, Peru, September 24, 2016 – Costa Rica defeated Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-14) in the match for fifth place at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Gatorade at Lolo Fernández Coliseum on Saturday. After a close battle in the first set, the Central American squad dominated the next two relying on their better services. Dominicans top preliminary round, claim ticket to world championship

LIMA, Peru, September 23, 2016 - Two-time defending champions Dominican Republic scored a convincing straight-set 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-17) victory over hosts Peru to claim the top position at the conclusion of the preliminary round of the U23 Women’s Pan American Cup that took place at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Lima. The Dominican side qualified to next year’s FIVB World Championship to be held in Slovenia. Brayelin Martinez fired a match-high 21 points to spearhead the offense of the winning side, followed by Gaila Gonzalez.  More  Español

Cuba qualifies in fourth position
LIMA, Peru, September 23, 2016 – Cuba beat Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-12) to claim the fourth place in the standings at the conclusion of the preliminary round of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Friday afternoon at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores. Cuba finished in fourth place with a 2-3 record in the preliminary round and will meet the top ranked team in the semifinals to be played on Saturday at Cañete Coliseum. Trinidad & Tobago remained winless at 0-5. The Trinidad & Tobago team was not able to solve.

Argentina concludes with 4-1 record

LIMA, Peru, September 23, 2016 – Argentina swept Costa Rica 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-11) to conclude the preliminary phase  of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup with a 4-1 win-loss record at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores on Friday. Costa Rica finished with a 1-4 record with their only victory achieved against Trinidad & Tobago. Daniela Bulaich had a match-high 16 points for the winners, followed by Candelaria Herrera, who had 10 points, including two blocks and three aces. Argentina held a 10-2 advantage in blocks and 8-4 in aces. The winners scored with 39 attacks compared to only 14 by Costa Rica. More  Español

Peru once again comes back to win in five sets

LIMA, Peru, September 22, 2016 - Peru pulled off a remarkable comeback from two sets down to defeat Cuba 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 18-16) on Thursday to remain undefeated with a 4-0 record at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup. Cuba dropped to 1-3.  It was the second consecutive five-set victory for Peru who won also against Argentina one day earlier needing a tie-breaker. Dominican Republic downs Costa Rica 3-0

LIMA, Peru, September 22, 2016 – Two-time defending champions Dominican Republic outlcassed Costa Rica in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-5, 25-11) in the fourth day of actions at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup taking place in Lima and Cañete. It was the third victory against one loss for the Dominican team that secured a spot in the semifinals of Saturday. Costa Rica dropped to 1-3. Gaila Gonzalez notched 13 points, including five aces, while Brayelin Martinez and Natalia Martínez added 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the victory. More  Español

Argentina overpowers Trinidad & Tobago

LIMA, Peru, September 22, 2016 – Argentina breezed past Trinidad & Tobago to win 3-0 (25-12, 25-4, 25-6) for their third victory against one loss at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Gatorade on Thursday at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores. It was the first three-set match for Argentina after winning in four instances against Cuba and Dominican Republic and losing a five-setter to Peru on Wednesday night. Peru wins sensational duel with Argentina

LIMA, Peru, September 21. 2016 – Peru pulled off a sensational comeback to edge Argentina 3-2 (17-25, 26-24, 23-25, 27-25, 17-15) in a thrilling duel between the two classic South American rivals on Wednesday at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Gatorade. The victory left Peru as the only undefeated team in the event with a 3-0 win-loss mark. Argentina fell to 2-1 in third place behind Dominican Republic. LIMA, Peru, September 21, 2016 – Two-time defending champions Dominican Republic returned to the right track with a straight-set 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Cuba in the third day of actions at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Gatorade at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores. One day after losing to Argentina, the Dominicans played with more intensity and improved all facets of their game. They now have a 2-1 win-loss record while Cuba fell to 1-2. Costa Rica defeats Trinidad & Tobago for first win

LIMA, Peru, September 21, 2016 – Costa Rica defeated Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) in a match between winless teams on day three of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup By Gatorade at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores on Wednesday. Monica Castro had 14 points as the offensive leader of Costa Rica, followed by Maria Alfaro and Tania Carazo with 11 and 10, respectively. Valeria Campos chipped in with 9 points in the victory. Malika Davidson had a match-high 15 points for Trinidad & Tobago, while Nicolette De Mille and ReJeanne Wallace added 13 and 11, respectively, in the loss. More  Español

Peru subdues Trinidad & Tobago with lopsided record

LIMA, Peru, September 20, 2016 - Hosts Peru swept Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-7) in the last match of day two on Tuesday at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup whose preliminary round takes place at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores, Lima. It was the most lopsided match (75-24) in the history of the tournament where Peru dominated in all facets of the game. It broke the old record of 75-26 set by Peru against Costa Rica on September 3, 2012. Peru blanked their opponents 4-0 in aces and 11-0 in blocks. The winners had four players who scored on double digits led by Maguilaura Frias with 14 points, including five aces. Katherine Regalado and Angela Leyva contributed 13 points each and Coraima Gomez added 11 in the victory. More  Español

LIMA, Peru, September 20, 2016 – Sol Piccolo and Simian Bulaich each blasted 18 points to carry Argentina to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 29-27, 25-22) victory over Dominican Republic in day two of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Lima on Tuesday. Argentina remained unbeaten in two outings while the Dominican Republic dropped to a 1-1 win-loss mark.  Candelaria Herrera contributed 12 points, including 5 blocks and 3 aces, while Camila Hiruela also finished with 12 points, including four aces in the victory. Cuba wins against tough Costa Rica

LIMA, Peru, September 20, 2016 – Cuba recovered from a sluggish start to defeat Costa Rica in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-18) in day two of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Lima on Tuesday. Cuba erased a 13-5 deficit in the first set and took command of the game against a Costa Rican side that kept battling until the end. Cuba improved its win-loss record to 1-1 while Costa Rica fell to a 0-2 mark. The winners held the advantage in attacks (39-18, blocks (6-5) and aces (11-6). They gave up 26 points with errors to 19 by the losers. More  Español

LIMA, Peru, September 19, 2016 – Hosts Peru swept Costa Rica 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-11) in the last match of day one at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup taking place at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Lima. Angela Leyva and Katherine Regalado led Peru with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Coraima Gomez added 11 while Maguilaura Frias and Alexandra Machado finished with 7 points each. Monica Castro had 6 points for Costa Rica. Peru dominated the match from start to finish and held advantages in attacks (44-14), blocks (6-2) and service winners (6-1). More  Español

Daniela Bulaich and Camila Hiruela were the top scorers for Argentina with 19 and 17 points, respectively.  Candelaria Herrera and Sol Piccolo contributed 10 and 9 in the victory. LIMA, Peru, September 17, 2016 – The Organizing Committee of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup and the members of the Control Committee from the Pan American Volleyball Union held a joint meeting on Saturday afternoon ahead of the start of the competition on Monday. Mr. Luis Linares, president of the Peruvian Volleyball Federation and the Organizing Committee, and Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, Vice President of UPV, chaired the meeting held at the presidential suite of Los Delfines Hotel in Lima. U23 Women’s Pan Am Cup coming up next in Peru

LIMA, Peru, September 16, 2016 – The two-time defending champions Dominican Republic are among the six participants in the third edition of the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup to be held in Lima and Cañete from September 19 to 25. The round-robin competition, followed by the semifinals and medal rounds, features also the teams from Argentina, Costa Rica, Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago and hosts Peru. The two previous edition of the event also took place in Lima, Peru where women’s volleyball is traditionally one of the most popular sport disciplines.  More  Español
